About the Contest

For the planning students who double as artists, creatives, designers... This opportunity is for you!

For APA's 2024 National Planning Conference, we are looking for a student who has the artistic and creative skills to design the cover for the 2024 APA Student & Planning Design Competition!

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a student member of APA.
  • Must be a current student at a planning program at their university.
  • No team submissions, submissions are from one-person only.
  • Open to all creative and artistic APA student members.

Submission Period

September 1–22, 2023 11:59pm CST

Reward

  • $100 VISA gift card
  • Your art will be showcased on the APA website, blog, and social media
  • A physical poster of your art sent to you

Submission Requirements

  • One submission per person.
  • Must be a .PNG or .JPEG file under 5MB.
  • Must be 8.5" x 11" dimensions.
    • Remember to account for a 0.25 inch margin on all sides of the page when making your design.
  • Must incorporate the following into their cover design:
    • Project Site: New Nicollet Redevelopment in Minneapolis, MN
    • Theme related to urban design.
    • The words "2024 Student Planning & Design Competition."
  • All mediums that are still images are eligible for submission. This includes graphic design, oil, watercolor, acrylic, and pastel paintings, mixed media, pen and ink, drawing, photography, digital art, etc.
    • If you are submitting non-digital art, please take a clear, high-resolution, well-lit photo of your work and ensure it is a JPEG or PNG file.

Submission Selection

Submission Selection will take place the week of September 25, 2023. APA's Student Representatives Council's (SRC) Executive Committee will select the winner from all eligible entries using the following criteria:

  • Incorporation of APA's mission
  • Incorporation of Project Site Location
  • Design and Creative Elements
  • Overall Impression

Participant information will not be showcased to the SRC Executive Committee to ensure unbiased and fair judging.

The notification of the submission selection outcome will be on October 2, 2023.
