Parks & Recreation System Improvement Plan

City of Mobile

Mobile, AL

The City of Mobile, Alabama is seeking to implement the City's first ever Parks & Recreation System Improvement Plan. In 2015 the City updated its comprehensive plan "Map for Mobile: Framework for Growth." This document outlines the need for a Parks & Recreation System Improvement Plan (SIP).

This project will encompass the entire City of Mobile, fulfilling a long-standing need for a Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The City has 99 park properties, 69 of which are "developed" parks, totaling about 1,295 acres of park lands. Additionally, there are 18 community centers, 6 pools, 9 wading pools, 5 splash pads, 1 (18 hole) golf course, and a 92 tennis courts.

The SIP will look at the Parks and Recreation system as a whole and will include specific recommendations for parks, centers and other related facilities. The Plan will be a guide for facility investment, capital improvement, and program changes for the next 15 – 20 years with detailed recommendations for action within the next 1-5 years.
