Collaborations
The American Planning Association (APA) strives to collaborate with other professional organizations that have a sustained interest in creating communities of lasting value. Joint activities have potential to make a lasting impact, and include partnerships around conferences and other educational venues; sharing of content in publications and digital media; and joint efforts at advocacy for issues in line with APA's mission and core values. The following highlights recent APA collaborations.
Call to Action for Healthy Communities
APA is one of eight design and public health organizations participating in a joint call to action to promote health through intentional community design. The call encourages the collective 450,000 member professionals to engage in greater collaboration, recognizing that the built environment — the buildings and public spaces in our communities and how we travel between them — is a key determinant of health. The call also builds upon the U.S. Surgeon General's Call to Action to Promote Walkable Communities. Organizations joining the call include:

Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP) Annual Conference
APA is a Gold sponsor of the ACSP Annual Conference, taking place November 3-5, 2016. The conference theme invites planning faculty to consider the role of urban planning programs in practice and in place. APA is hosting a roundtable gathering of planning educators and APA volunteers to explore opportunities for future service by the Association to the academic community.
American Institute of Architects (AIA) Build America Summit
APA is a participant and sponsor of the American Institute of Architect's (AIA) Build America Summit, November 29-30, 2016. The summit brings together professional organizations and other key stakeholders in a critical conversation to renew and rebuild America's social infrastructure — the public buildings and spaces that are the heart of our communities. Recommendations generated from the summit will be shared with the next Presidential administration.
American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA)
At recent ASLA Annual Meeting APA representatives held informal meetings and participated in a moderated discussion that compared the mechanics and rules of the AICP Code of Ethics to the ethical principles guiding the work of professionals in landscape architecture, architecture and other fields. Transportation Planning Excellence Awards (TPEA)
The American Planning Association is a co-sponsor of the Transportation Planning Excellence Awards presented by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration. These awards are presented biennially by FHWA to recognize outstanding transportation planning practices. The "Best of the Best" award recipient is acknowledged at APA's National Planning Conference.
